Enhancing the Position of High Nutritional Value Products - Event in Larissa on Health Claims for Local & PDO PGI Products

Many Greek Local products and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) - Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) products are renowned for their high nutritional value. However, this reputation has practical value when scientifically documented. In this context, the particularly significant event "Confirming the value of our agricultural products" will take place on Thursday, 04/07/24 at 10:30 a.m. in the Regional Council Hall of the Region of Thessaly (New Building, Larissa).

At the event, the results of the program by the New Agriculture New Generation Organization, "Enhancing the position of high nutritional value products," will be presented first. This program was implemented through the founding donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), in collaboration with the University of Thessaly (UTH), with the support of the National Association of Agricultural Cooperatives (ETHEAS). The program scientifically documents health claims for a series of Local and PDO – PGI products of the Greek countryside: Pieria Kiwi, Sykourio Almond, Pelion Apple, Chania Oranges, Prespa Beans, Chania Avocado, Messinia Figs, Corinthian Raisins.

Following the presentation, a discussion will take place with experts and professionals on how farmers and entrepreneurs who produce and market these products can practically utilize the confirmed health claims.

Undoubtedly, the scientific documentation of health claims for a series of significant Greek agricultural products is an important initiative that creates new data and will significantly contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of these products. The use of health claims can boost exports and bring significant benefits to local economies, creating a range of benefits for a large number of professions. Through this event, all interested parties will be able to learn important details and explore the prospects that are forming.

Distinguished biotechnology scientists, agri-food industry professionals, and marketing experts, as well as representatives of cooperatives from the program's products and other professional bodies, will participate.
